1080 minutes and counting…

27 Oct

Barcelona have 12 games remaining in the year 2012, and even though every game in modern football is significant, the world will be monitoring these 12 specifically.

Lionel Messi is 15 goals away from scoring the most goals ever in a calendar year. At the age of 25, we’ve seen it all from this Argentinian great, but even to top Pele’s record would be something special. Having already smashed Gerd Muller’s record of 68 goals in a season, Messi looks to do one better and cement his status as one of the greatest players to ever grace a football field. With the Ballon D’Or race so tight, Messi smashing this record could give him the slightest edge over rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Nonetheless were witnessing something special here, and as fans we should embrace it. With only approximately 1080 minutes available to smash this record, the floor is yours Lionel, best of luck!
